HOW DOES PSYCHOTHERAPY WORK?
Your story matters: your pain, your needs, your stories, your collection of struggles, your darkest hours and your brightest moments are unique to you and they all take center stage when you’re in my office. There is no one-size fits all approach to therapy. It’s all about focusing on your experiences, thoughts, feeling and actions. We’ll spend time understanding exactly what you are experiencing and why. We’ll explore the way your thoughts and beliefs may be causing emotional problems; we will identify the patterns that are keeping you from feeling your best and we’ll find ways to break free from them, so when you start making changes that improve your life, they will stick.

I see it my role to listen and watch and meet you where you are. I work in tandem with you to define and pursue courses of action based on your personality and fundamental values and create a safe, peaceful space where you can drop the mask and begin to reveal and heal your true self. We will shed light on your ill-adapted thought and behavioral patterns and you will start to strengthen and develop more efficient ones. I bring respect, kindness and fun so that you feel empowered to make changes in your life. My purpose is to help you develop new skills so to be autonomous and to better cope with whatever challenges arise in the future.
What kind of therapy?
With the many different types of therapy that exist, you deserve to know if you’re going to meet Freud, Buddha or Carl Rogers before paying for therapy. What to expect when you sit down to talk with me? My method is based on knowledge from scientific psychology and is centered both on ill-adapted behaviors, ineffective ways of thinking and on handling your emotions. It is a succinct, specific and scientifically validated approach where the work is focused on your current problem and is about helping you to progress here and now.
Specifically, I use the cognitive-behavioral therapies with an emphasize on schema therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), metacognitive therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). As a positive psychology practitioner, I also use, among other methods, different relaxation and cognitive restructuring techniques, problem solving strategies and brief solution-focused therapy.
What to expect?
We will spend the first few sessions discussing your current issues, previous experiences and what brings you to therapy. Those are the so called “probatory sessions”: they are an opportunity for you to check my therapeutic style and decide if you feel confortable and at ease to work with me. They are also the time for me to identify what you are suffering from: depression, anxiety, adjustment disorder or else. During this initial phase, I will provide you with a diagnoses, we will establish mutually agreed upon goals for our work and I will recommend a treatment plan: length, frequency and number of sessions.
